G.O. Get Outside

A trans-media outdoor brand focused on everyday people.

GO Get Outside spotlights everyday people doing extraordinary things accessible to all. We are all interesting and extraordinary and have something to share. The G.O. brand has generated large amounts of content in various forms of media including: a 4-part video web-series introducing the uninitiated to specific outdoor activities, an ongoing (100+ episode) audio podcast series, and a live talk showChick-A-Boom!—where a panel of active women advise the audience about issues affecting women in the outdoors. G.O. continues to expand its offerings as we develop projects for other outlets such as documentary film and live streaming.

“The G.O. brand has generated content in various forms of media including: a four part video web-series, an ongoing audio podcast series, and a live talk show… ”

G.O. began as a video web-series featuring four everyday people who are passionate about their outdoor pursuits. We introduced an eager audience to the activities of caving, hiking, canyoneering, and surfing and inspired them to get active—to become participants in outdoor recreation. Production was a challenge. It required us to capture stories beneath the Earth, in the ocean, while descending flowing waterfalls, and along the trails of Southern California. We devised methods to protect our usual video gear while also incorporating GoPros and then nascent drone technology. Shooting G.O. involved dangling from ropes, squeezing through tight subterranean spaces, navigating flowing rivers, and trekking through the backcountry—all while capturing the lives of our heroes on camera.

G.O. quickly expanded into an audio podcast with similar goals. Usually recorded outdoors, the series is an opportunity to get to know the personalities of the varied people in the outdoor community and become inspired by their stories and struggles. Hosted by Butcher Bird partner Jason Milligan, the podcast is ongoing with over 100 episodes across 5 seasons. It is available on all major podcast platforms and features guests from across the globe.

We have also expanded the conceits of the G.O. brand into projects for our clients. Untethered: On the Road was a 7 episode series featuring Jason Milligan and his partner, Erika, traveling across 42 U.S. States in 55 days. They show us the sorts of adventures one can pursue across 13,510 continental miles while living out of a car—working from the road—powering their pursuits with TYLT products. Butcher Bird was also approached by The Arroyos and Foothills Conservancy to help them share the stories of their resident camera trappers—wildlife photographers using remote cameras—for an exhibit at Descanso Gardens. Shooting and recording for G.O.’s various incarnations takes us across the globe, through difficult environments, and makes us a team able to capture intriguing stories anywhere on or beneath the Earth (and possibly beyond).
