Creative People… Live!

Here at Butcher Bird Studios, we are fascinated by the digital realm. During our professional and personal time spent in the digital space, we’ve come across countless innovative creators and technical wizards who fill our brains with electric ideas and share amazing stories. We decided to broadcast this experience out to the rest of the world–by creating an online platform that would give our audience a chance to get as close as possible without having to leave their homes.

“Butcher Bird Presents” is our very own weekly multi-cam real-time talk show hosted on Facebook Live. We feature special guest filmmakers, writers, musicians and other artists who innovate and create in the digital space.

Over our first 19 episodes we’ve hosted the likes of Reggie Watts, Margaret Dunlap, Charles Babb, Michaella Vu, and Felipe Smith. Each guest has shared their own unique perspective about what the digital space means to them, what challenges they’ve faced inside of it, and ultimately, how they’ve used the latest tools to launch and grow their creative works.

The Complete Package

Remember that show we made with Monkey Kingdom Productions about toys doing inappropriate things to each other? You know, the one with the weird baby-faced zombies? The one with the talking snake with samurai swords? The one with the superhero who keeps trying to bang his sister? The one where the Bambi doll gets run down by her own pink remote control toy car? The one where you get to see Yuri Lowenthal’s bare ass? Right, that one: Shelf Life.

Now you can own it on your mobile device: all episodes (even the unreleased bonus episodes) and a bunch of bonus materials. Get it on the Apple Store.

Shelf Life Web Series Concludes Third Season

Phil Morris (Smallville’s Martian Manhunter) totally kicked ass as Black Velvet in the two-part season finale of Shelf Life Season 3. At least, until Hero Lass showed up. And then he was properly scared like the rest of us.

There’s nothing like entering the world of six-inch tall action figures and bringing their (often psychotic) antics to life in a live-action romp. Often, overcoming the challenges of creating a story at that scale results in unexpected creativity. I will always treasure the image of Yuri and Tara chasing after tumbleweeds and then covering them with Halloween cobwebbing to create giant dust bunnnies for the under-bed set.

Starring Tara Platt, Yuri Lowenthal,Travis Willingham, Bran Enk
Directed by Steven Calcote
Produced by Monkey Kingdom Productions, Butcher Birds Studios, Ultimatum Entertainment
